Weekend Recap: Celebrating the Sports Equinox: 10/28/19

Im going to start putting out more blogs. I’ll eventually change the name of the site to something more broad, but until then I will blog about mostly everything on Wentz Zone.

What a beautiful day it was on Sunday. It was like every single star aligned. There was no better place to be then in front of your couch. Every single (relevant) sport was on in one day. The times of games were so perfect that if you planned it right, you had multiple games to watch at all times.

NFL Sunday was very good unless you are a gambler. I’m pretty sure the witching hour (3-4pm) claimed my life and I am now just a ghost of a man. I went 1-4 in the span of 20 minutes. Just when I thought I was about to break even and maybe profit on 4PM games, I was hit with shame as I just lost everything. Venmo me. Please.

The Eagles won. They dominated the Bills in Buffalo. I was very happy.

The Colts almost lost to the Broncos which was suprising. The Broncos have actually looked like a somewhat competent team the last 3 weeks, it will be interesting to see if they end up selling at the deadline tomorrow (10/29).

The Bears offense somehow almost looked worse than last weekend. And of course they missed on a DOINK to lose the game. Deja Vu.

The 49ers are real. They have a top 3 defense and offense and can dominate nearly any team they play. I can not wait for the Seahawks game in a few weeks.

The Browns are a dumpster fire. They actually SUCK. I’m shocked that Kitchens wasn’t fired last night. Baker Mayfield looked awful last night. It was even worse for the Browns that it was a winnable game for them. They played terrible football and were somehow still in the mix for almost the entire game.

College football was pretty great too. Michigan absolutely steam rolled Notre Dame. Notre Dame legitimately looked like a D2 football team in Ann Arbor. I have never seen a top 10 team so unprepared for a football game. They looked like they didn’t even know it was gonna rain.

Oklahoma shockingly lost. Hurts was great but their defense couldn’t slow down a turtle. Those two losses should definitely do a number on the top 10. LSU beat Auburn in the most unsurprising news of the weekend. I want Bo Nix to be good so bad because he has the best name in college football, but man, he is BAD this season. I know he’s just a freshman but sometimes he looks lost out there. Also, Ohio State beat Wisconsin and now Wisconsin is officially cancelled, I think.

The World Series was on Sunday night as well. The Astros took a 3-2 series lead against the Nat’s. I’m convinced the Nat’s thought it was a 2 game series because they have looked awful in the last 3 games. The pitching has been subpar and they haven’t gotten the offensive production that they have in the last 2 rounds (besides in Game 2). Hopefully the Astros win the series in Game 6 so I can make fun of Nat’s fans.

George Springer has been the MVP of this series, btw.

Oh, and if you thought Sunday night would put an end to the craziness. Two girls got banned from every MLB stadium for flashing the camera in game 5. Incredible.

I will be doing a live blog next weekend for the entire weekend. It will basically be this, but you will be able to follow it along live. I’ll start that blog Friday night.

Thanks for reading and I’ll see ya next weekend.

BEAT THE SPREAD: NFL AND CFB EDITION PT. 1

Big week ahead for me personally. I sucked last weekend. I lost you guys money again and I’m sorry. We will win this week. Tides will turn. That’s all I will say. I had some people ask me to post one of these with college football picks as well, so here we go..

NFL picks

PICK: Colts – 6 vs Broncos

Colts played very well against the Texans. I fully expect them to put up some points against the Broncos and cruise to a victory.

PICK: Bears -4 vs Chargers

Bears flat out sucked last week. They need to save their season. Chargers suck. Load the Bears.

PICK: Rams -13 vs Bengals

I said on the podcast that I think the Rams found something against the Falcons. I think they continue that against another bad team. Rams by a million.

PICK: Chiefs +3.5 vs Packers

This will be a dog fight. I might even consider betting the over as well. Both teams need to win to keep separating themselves in the division. I like the Chiefs to cover.

PICK: Cardinals +10.5 vs Saints

Saints have been playing well, but I think Kyler Murray is a hell of a QB and will score points to keep pace with New Orleans.

PICK: Lions -7 vs Giants

Lions are a pissed off football team. They just randomly traded one of their starting safeties. Giants struggled last weekend. I love the Lions. It feels wrong to bet them, so it has to be right.

PICK: 49ers -5.5 vs Panthers

Jimmy G and the 49ers defense have been unreal. I expect that to continue. 49ers by a trillion.

CFB picks

Wisconsin-OSU OVER 50

LSU -10.5 vs Auburn

Penn State -6.5 @ MSU

Nebraska -2 vs Indiana

Texas -2 @ TCU

UNC -3.5 vs Duke

Michigan +1 vs ND

Boston College +34 @ Clemson

Utah -21.5 vs CAL

2019 Season Overall: 15-16 (48%) Last week: 2-4

I will continue to update every post with my record.

Beat the Spread: NFL Week 7

I am sorry for losing you all money in week 6. Who the hell saw the Titans and Falcons losing the way they did. Also, Baltimore, who had 300 more yards than the Bengals, should have covered. It was a weird week. Oh, and before I forget, Jamaal Williams is dead to me. If he would have scored the Packers would have surely covered and I would have gone even with my picks and ended up even in the money column.

So, this week, we will avoid taking chances on bad teams and just focus on getting quality locks to bet on. These are my week 7 LOCKS:

Pick: Chiefs -4.5 (@ Broncos)

Not much to say about this one. Chiefs desperately need a win and the Broncos can not compete offensively with the Patrick Mahomes and the men in red. This is a LOCK.

Pick: Lions +1 (vs.Vikings)

Lions almost pulled out a win vs. the Packers on Monday night. Although most of their points came from Matty Prater, I have a lot of confidence in them coming out strong vs. the Vikings and winning the game.

Pick: 49ers -10 (@ Redskins)

Image result for 49ers

The Redskins SUCK and barely beat the Dolphins, while the 49ers beat a tough Rams team dominantly. I think they continue undefeated and steam roll the Skins. I can’t believe the line is this low, and of course this worries me.

Pick: Jaguars -3 (@ Bengals)

The Bengals played well against the Ravens, and ended up covering, but I think it mainly due to the missed chances of Lamarr Jackson and the Ravens offense. I don’t think they are ready for MINSHEW MANIA and lose big in this one.

Pick: Bears – 3 (vs. Saints)

I don’t love this pick, but that usually is a good thing in my gambling life. I think the Bears play tough defense against big dong Teddy and get enough production to cover. This bet basically relies on the Saints being able to score points against the Bears, no matter what the Bears offense does. The Bears are in must win territory as they try and keep pace with the rest of the best division in football, the NFC North.

Pick: Seahawks -3.5 (vs. Ravens)

LOVE this pick. The Ravens have screwed me by not covering this season. I think the Seahawks pound them with the 12th man behind them. This is mostly a revenge pick for me, but I do love the Seahawks this season and will probably start to roll with them the rest of the season.

2019 Season Overall: 13-12 (52.0%)

Beat the Spread: NFL Week 6

Week 5 was a weird week for gamblers. A lot of 1:00 games forced us to jam all of our picks into one slot. This week, it is a little different, a good spread of games, with even a 9:30 AM ET game to get the day going.

As usual, I LOVE the board this week. Here are my favorite picks:

Pick: Patriots -17 (vs. NY Giants) *TNF

I absolutely love this pick. The Patriots have covered a good portion of their games this year, and I will ALWAYS take Bill Belichick against a rookie QB.

Pick: Ravens -11 (vs. Cincinnati Bengals)

Lamar Jackson is the key to this bet. If he can correct his mistakes from last week, the Ravens should cover with ease at home. The Bengals have looked pretty terrible, and cant even beat bad teams.

Pick: Titans +1.5 (at Denver Broncos)

Titans looked pretty awful last week, but they seemingly always cover when they are an underdog. Denver looked sharp, but I don’t see them keeping that same play up this week. I would even go as far as saying this is a lock.

Pick: Packers -3.5 (vs. Detroit Lions) *MNF

I actually love the Lions this year. I think they have a lot of talent and Matt Patricia is becoming a good head coach. But, no way in hell am I picking against the Packers after last weeks beatdown of the Cowboys.

Pick: Eagles @ Minnesota (Over 45)

Looking at all the overs, this is the only one I actually really liked. Whenever the media hypes up a defensive battle, we usually get the opposite. Eagles secondary is banged up and the Vikings offense looked great last week, albeit against the Giants.

2019 season overall: 11-9 (55.0%)

I will continue to update every post with my record.
