NFL Coaching Carousel Update & Analysis

Numerous coaching hires have been made in the last week.

The coaching carousel provides NFL fans with a sense of hope every offseason. Fans often think their team has found the guy to take them to a super bowl, or the guy that will ruin their franchise.

It’s that time of year again and the dominoes are falling.

Rivera was a great hire for the Redskins as he brings much needed stability to a shaky franchise. Rivera was previously the head coach of the Panthers, where he led the team to the Super Bowl in 2015.

Mike McCarthy was a big surprise, but the Cowboys only met with him once which shows they really liked him. Jerry Jones even had McCarthy stay over his house for a night.

Joe Judge heads to the Giants as the biggest surprise of the NFL coaching hires. Judge, who was the special teams coordinator and receiver coach in New England, adds the “Belichick” way to this young Giants team.

Matt Rhule goes to Carolina after rumors he would end up in New York, where he is from. Rhule, formerly the Baylor and Temple head coach, brought both programs back from terrible circumstances.

Check out this Matt Rhule interview. Interesting to say the least.

Mike McCarthy is in the best position to succeed at the moment. The Cowboys showed signs last season, but collapsed late in the year, which was the story of Jason Garrett’s tenure has head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Matt Rhule is also in a decent position as he inherits one of the best weapons in the league in Christian Mccaffery.

Seeing how Ron Rivera will turn around Washington is going to be something to keep an eye on. There have not been reports about what he wants to do at the QB position, but all reports have them taking Chase Young at 3 (if he’s available), which means they might be going forward with Dwayne Haskins as Quarterback. It will be interesting to see if they try and build around Haskins.

The Browns have yet to hire a new coach. Their former coach, Freddie Kitchens, might be on his way to the Giants.

As for the Browns coaching search, they still have interviews with Kevin Stefanski, Jim Schwartz and Josh McDaniels. Stefanski is an interesting name to be popping up. The Vikings offense has seriously turned it around this season after a slow start. It sounds like teams are seriously valuing how the offense turned it around.

The Browns have finally found their guy. Cleveland announced today that Kevin Stefanski, former Vikings offensive coordinator, as their head coach for the 2020 season and beyond. Stefanski comes in as a hot commodity. He had interest from numerous teams but eventually went to the Browns.
